This chapter is from "Kwan JSH Lam C Choi CE 2023 Advances in design in the 2nd edition of Debris-flow Hazards and Related Phenomena (Eds. Jakob, M., McDougal S., Santi, P.), which is in press now.
Importantly, this file has been used as the key reference in our new funding proposal, and we want it public and upload it in our page and google scholar, so the reviewers could see it.
This chapter provides an overview of the existing design practices, including the commonly used impact models and assumed impact scenarios, and state-of-the-art research findings that enable the optimization of the design of engineering countermeasures against debris flow impact.
