Diabetic nephropathy (DN), which is known as a major microvascular diabetic complication, is the deterioration of kidney function and the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. Persistent hyperglycemia is the major reason of kidney dysfunction associated with Diabetes mellitus. Statistics showed that there are about 171 million diabetes worldwide and approximately 40% diabetic patients result in DN. Report showed that DN can be improved by nourishing kidney Yin through Chinese medicine.
Yuye Decoction (YYD) is an ancient formulation in Chinese medicine. Dendrobium officinale (DO) can nourish kidney Yin based on Pharmacopoeia of China recorded. Therefore, we hypothesize that DOY, which is the combination of DO and YYD, can treat DN. Transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of DN. In this study, we aim to investigate the effect of DOY on DN and TGF-β1 signaling pathway.
