Supporting data for "Enterococcus faecalis: Biofilms, Quorum Sensing And a Novel Antibiofilm Compound"

The uploaded data set include data generated via series of experiments in PhD research project. The project is aimed to study the role of surface conditioning and quorum sensing as two major factors that influence biofilm development in Enterococcus faecalis. The latter is an opportunistic Gram-positive bacterium frequently involved in dental root canal infections. Therefore, E. faecalis biofilms were characterized in terms of biofilm viability, metabolic activity and biofilm matrix composition under the influence of different surface conditioners (Study 1) and genetic mutations in the Fsr-quorum sensing (Study 2). The data set also includes data generated to demonstrate the antimicrobial, antibiofilm, antivirulence and anti-quorum sensing activities of a natural plant-derived compound called trans-cinnamaldehyde (TC) against E. faecalis (Studies 3 and 4).
Data sets are organized in subfolders corresponding to the studies of the thesis. The data set are mainly provided in excel files (xls format), and/or PDF files for the quantitative assays. Additional file formats exist such as Tiff /jpeg for raw microscopic images. The images were processed using specialized image processing softwares for quantitative analysis.
