This dataset contains qualitative data collected for my PhD thesis on environmental NGOs' political adaptation in China. The research examines how ENGOs strategically respond to regulatory changes following the implementation of the 2016 Charity Law and 2017 Overseas NGO Management Law. The dataset includes transcripts from semi-structured interviews conducted face-to-face with ENGO leaders, staff members, and policy experts across Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen from July to August 2024. Interviews were conducted in Mandarin Chinese and later transcribed and translated into English. All participant information has been anonymized to protect confidentiality, with pseudonyms used throughout. This dataset provides valuable insights into civil society adaptation within politically constrained environments and the differentiated spaces for civic action across Chinese provinces.
