Soil, as a natural granular material, is composed of solid grains and voids filled with fluid. Its behavior is generally nonlinear, and the stiffness of soil tends to decrease as strain increases. However, at infinitesimally small strain values, typically below 10-5, the stiffness is assumed to remain constant, known as small-strain or elastic stiffness. The characterization of these elastic properties of granular soils has garnered longstanding interest in both engineering applications and theoretical aspects. This study investigates the influence of soil fabric and stress anisotropic effects on small-strain stiffness of sandy soil.
