Supporting data for "Modern Transformations of Chinese Educational Traditions: A Study of Contemporary Policy and Practice"
This dataset contained all raw materials used in the doctoral thesis of "Modern Transformations of Chinese Educational Traditions: A Study of Contemporary Policy and Practice." Such a thesis investigates how Western values, ideas and institutions are integrated into Chinese traditions in China's policy and practice. It studies the transformative efforts of contemporary policy-makers in Mainland China and the underlying mechanisms.
The empirical data for such a thesis include interviews and documents.A total of 46 interviews were conducted in the provinces of Henan, Gansu, and Jiangsu in Mainland China. Officials, scholars and school principals were interviewed. Their understanding of Chinese educational traditions and their efforts to transform Chinese traditions were interviewed. The documents sotred in the dataset are given by the interviewee. In this dataset, it contains all the interview transcripts, documents, and the codebook for data analysis.
