Supporting data for "The Impact of The Naturalness Bias on Vowel Harmony Patterns in Transmission and Communication"
This dataset includes experiment records from Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 of the thesis "The Impact of The Naturalness Bias on Vowel Harmony Patterns in Transmission and Interaction". Files are either in the format of excel or csv. All excel files were generated by Microsoft Excel; All csv files were generated by PsychoPy via Pavlovia.
The thesis includes two experiments investigating the effect of naturalness bias on phonological grammar. Both experiments adopted the Artificial Language Learning paradigm: participants were trained with an artificial language designed by the researcher, and then they were tested on how well they have acquired this language. In the testing phase, participants' task was to choose the correct answer out of two choices. For example, after they learned a singular-plural pair - , they were asked whether or is the correct plural form of . As the whole experiment was done with a computer program, their selection was recorded for each question. For example, in file [20230308_HKT1300_0023_iterative_2023-03-08_13h15.49.555] Column "mouse_2.clicked_name", "circle_2_a" and "circle_2_b" indicate that the participant has chosen Selection A (e.g., ) or Selection B (e.g., ) respectively. Thus, based on these datasets, we can calculate their accuracy rate to measure their learning outcomes.
