This study examined how the visual and verbal working memory, working memory updating ability, Chinese language ability of the students affect the effectiveness of different cognitive strategies for students with mathematics difficulties in solving percentage word problems. 56 student were diivided into 4 groups (visual strategy, verbal strategy, combined strategy and teh control group). Results of the study revealed that the strategies were more effective to those with lower abilities.
