Aspergillus fumigatus is a human-pathogenic fungus that can cause a wide spectrum of diseases, from superficial infections to invasive infections in the immunocompromised population. However, there are limited antifungal agents available for treatment, and no vaccine is available for its prevention so far. Fungal extracellular vesicles (EVs) contain multiple bioactive components including proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and lipids, which could be involved in diverse physiological and pathological processes. Therefore, they are being investigated for their potential in various applications, including host-pathogen interactions, theragnostic biomarkers, drug delivery systems, and vaccine platforms.
