Supporting data for “Measuring Early Home Learning Environments in China”
This dataset contains the data collected for the dissertation “Measuring Early Home Learning Environments in China”. Chapter Six (Study Four) of this thesis aims to improve the home learning environment (HLE) measure in population-level surveys by developing and validating a comprehensive tool for assessing the HLE of preschool-aged children in the Chinese context. The study used a modified E-Delphi method to evaluate the content validity of an initial item pool assessing the HLE of Chinese preschool-aged children based on experts' judgment regarding each item's relevance, clarity, cultural and age appropriateness, and importance. Items that achieved consensus by experts were tested with Chinese caregiver-child dyads to examine the scale’s reliability and validity. This dataset includes data collected from two E-Delphi surveys and the parent survey. Sixteen Chinese and international experts participated in the two-round surveys. Thirty-three children and their parents participated in the pilot study in Guangdong, China. Data was collected from February to September 2023.
