This thesis investigates how culturally contextualised learning designs influence secondary school students' learning outcomes, including knowledge, attitudes, and engagement in a constructionist AI music creation environment. The research comprised two mixed-methods studies conducted in China and Mexico. Study 1 investigated the effect of culturally relevant AI education and compared the results from two cities, Puebla, Mexico and Hong Kong, China. Study 2 focused on the effects of cross-cultural education to motivate learning about AI in the Hong Kong context. Culturally based activities are contextualised through music creation in the learning platform.

Research data contains test and survey responses, interviews/written reflections, and sequence data of secondary school students generated during the AI education interventions. Study 1 includes data from students in two contexts (Puebla, Mexico and Hong Kong, China.) Study 2 contains data from students in Hong Kong, China. For both studies, tests/survey data include pre- and post-intervention responses in .csv files; sequence data --the ordered interactions of students with the learning platform during the intervention activities-- in .csv file, and textual data from students' interviews/reflections after the intervention is stored in .docx files. Unique alphanumeric identifiers are given to all participants of the study, and are used throughout the dataset for consistent management of participant data from different sources (e.g., tests, sequences, interview.) No personal information is present in these records.
