The ethnographic research is structured in three stages. Stage one aims to gain an overall understanding of the EAP teachers’ institutionalized identities through a narrative survey of 77 EAP teachers’ opinions and individual semi-structured interviews with 36 of them. Stage two involves a year-long online engagement with this EAP community during the pandemic through virtual observations of lessons and professional development sessions. Stage three consists of an additional year of onsite ethnographic exploration involving 24 teachers, 21 students, and 5 managers to achieve a more profound emic understanding of EAP teachers’ identity construction.
