Supporting data for “Ganoderma lucidum triterpenoids as potential antidepressant agents: mechanisms beyond neurogenesis”.
Major depression is a serious mental disorder and a leading cause of global disease burden. Here, we tested the hypothesis that Ganoderma lucidum triterpenoids (GLT) – bioactive compounds extracted from the Lingzhi mushroom – induce antidepressant-like effects in a chronic restraint stress (CRS) mouse model. Overall, our findings indicate that GLT has significant antidepressant-like effects in animals via neurogenesis-independent and HPA axis-regulated glucocorticoid- dependent mechanisms. Our study provides new insights into the therapeutic use of GLT and supports its potential as an alternative medicine for MDD.
The data set uploaded include data for animal behavioral tests, stress hormone concentration assessments, immunofluorescence study, immunohistochemistry study, neurotransmitter concentration assessments, and gene expression analysis. Representative images for immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry studies and other figures included in the thesis were also uploaded.
