media
posted on 2024-07-09, 08:50 authored by Wai Tung Yeung

With years of LGBTQ+ rights striving in Hong Kong, Hong Kong lesbians have been perpetually experiencing minority stress and microaggressions in the intricate cultural context. With the potential of utilizing music therapy towards LGBTQ+ groups in Western regions, there is a lack of music therapy intervention specifically dealing with these experiences in the Eastern region (including Hong Kong). This research project explored how music therapy could address this situation by ecologically combining Eastern and Western philosophy.
This qualitative research project included 1) interviewing Hong Kong lesbians about their real-life minority stresses and microaggressive experiences with music, 2) developing the music therapy intervention, and 3) exploring how the participants cope with minority stress using music therapy.
