This set of tourist maps is the learning outcome of the course “Tourism, Culture and Society” (2017-2018) offered by Department of Sociology, The University of Hong Kong. With the support from community partners and community collaborators, students participated in experiential learning activities - including archival research, field trips, interviews, and training workshops, and joined the production of this set of tourist maps.

The Eastern District is located at the northeast of Hong Kong Island. Once a remote fishing village and quarry area, the Eastern District is now home to over 550,000 residents with vibrant business activities. The district is rich in a variety of spectacular cityscape and natural scenery. You could find street markets, local shops, shopping malls, old temples, commercial compounds, factories, historic buildings, tranquil hiking trails, typhoon shelter, and even cemeteries next to residential blocks. This set of tourist map features the history, local culture and residents’ stories of the following five precincts of the Eastern District:

(1) Fortress Hill and North Point,

(2) Quarry Bay and Mount Parker,

(3) Taikoo Shing and Kornhill,

(4) Shau Kei Wan, Sai Wan Ho and Lei King Wan, and

(5) Chai Wan, Siu Sai Wan and Cape Collinson.
